MSH Board Member Background InfoLizbeth Kelly, HT (ASCP), QIHC I started Histopathology in 1987, where I had formal on-the-job training while working for a National Toxicology Program and toxicology/pharmacology laboratory. I was so interested in science, and I did a course in Histology in a community college and later continued other science studies. I took my HT exam in 1991 and my Qualification in Immunohistochemistry (QIHC) in 1995 through the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Registry. For the first 4 years of my career I worked in necropsies/trimming of small and large animals, microtomy, embedding, and staining. I later was offered a position at an Oncology reference laboratory, where I was introduced to the IHC world by staining various markers on frozen and paraffin sections. I continued five years of my career by working in a clinical lab in Frederick, Maryland. At this hospital I did Histology, was able to help establish their IHC section and did Cytology work. For the last 10 years of my career I’ve been working for a biotech company in Rockville, Maryland where I am responsible for the Histology laboratory. I’ve been a member of The Maryland Society of Histotechnologists (MSH) and the National Society of Histotechnologist (NSH) since 1991. I’ve been a Board Member of MSH since 2004 and Secretary in 2005. I’ve come to respect all members and board members of MSH and NSH by elevating their knowledge and promoting continued growth to our profession. |
